It's over 150 years old, and throughout its time the Surrey Police Force has coped with numerous amalgamations, successions, reorganisations and boundary changes.

Following the latest of these changes on the 1st April 2000, the Force has grown in size by nearly a third, extending its police boundaries to encompass areas which were covered by the Metropolitan Police. This has increased its population from 750,000 to over 1,000,000. Surrey has consistently achieved the lowest crime rate in England, due in no small part to the work of the 3370 personnel, comprising 1930 police officers, 1400 police staff and 240 specials. The three-year ambition of the Force is to remain the safest county in England.
