Pedal Power - Community Bike Project Gets Off The Ground
Getting people of all ages cycling, and helping young jobseekers at the same time, are the twin aims of an innovative, new local community enterprise. Set up by partners and volunteers, the Guildford Bike Project trains people to refurbish donated bikes. The bikes are then sold to the community at affordable prices.

Plain Packets To Help Pack It In - NHS Surrey
That’s the message from Surrey’s Director of Public Health who is backing a campaign that could see the introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes, helping to deter young people from taking up the habit.

Partner Volunteering Scheme - Waitrose
Following a survey which shows almost 70%* of people in the UK don’t do any type of volunteering at all, Waitrose has launched a Partner Volunteering scheme.
The scheme which will see all 277 of its branches donate 250 hours (100 for convenience stores) of employees’ time to local charities and good causes each year, meaning a total of 75,000 hours will be donated across the branches.

In-House Investment Team - Tesco Pension Fund
Tesco and the Pension Fund Trustees are establishing an in-house investment team to manage their pension scheme and increase net returns. Tesco has one of the largest private sector pension schemes in the UK, with over 170,000 employees part of its defined benefit scheme and investment assets worth over £6bn. The new in-house investment team will reduce dependence on external providers whilst governance will continue to be provided by the Trustees.

New Fund To Unlock Savings Of 37 Million Pounds - Surrey County Council
Surrey County Council has set up an investment fund that will unlock savings of more than £37 million. The council estimates that its £9 million investment fund will generate more than four times as much in savings for local taxpayers by 2017.
